Agents multiply identity risk

- OAuth tokens
- Delegated privileges across multiple services
In many deployments, those credentials are static, shared or embedded directly in configuration layers. That alone creates risk. But the real danger isn’t the credential itself; it’s the blast radius it enables. Agents don’t just authenticate, they execute workflows across systems.
In practice, that means a single compromised agent can call internal APIs, retrieve data from SaaS systems, trigger actions in downstream tools, and interact with other agents. In real-world terms: a compromised agent isn’t just an access problem, it becomes an operations foothold inside the environment. Attackers are no longer limited to what one identity can see; they inherit the entire chain of systems that agent can orchestrate. These are privileged automation loops that attackers can exploit.
At this point, the problem is no longer identity. It’s interaction.
The “poisoned” compass
There’s one more layer to this interaction risk: the data the agent trusts.
Agents don’t follow hard-coded logic, they rely on a knowledge base and memory to decide their next move. This creates a significant business risk: knowledge poisoning. If an attacker can’t crack the agent’s credentials, they can simply “poison” the information it consumes. By seeding a malicious instruction into a document or a synced database, attackers don’t need to crack the code - they just convince the agent that a harmful action is actually a legitimate part of its mission.
The agent then unwittingly triggers a chain of events across connected systems, operating on a “compromised truth” to navigate an attack path you never intended to open. And because this behavior looks like a legitimate workflow, it remains entirely invisible to traditional monitoring.
Visibility is the real issue
Right now, most organizations can’t answer a simple operational question: if an attacker compromised one of our AI agents, what could they actually reach?
Not in theory. In the real environment.
